At 2:30 p.m. on May 6, the public is invited to "The Grand Unveiling Book Release Party" of Lisa Colburn's latest creative endeavor, The Maine Garden Journal - Insider secrets from Maine people who love to put their hands in the dirt.

The Maine Garden Journal is written in a down-to-earth, neighbor-to-neighbor style with gardeners quoted liberally throughout. Full-color photos bring the plants vividly to life and make the book a helpful resource to gardeners. We've all come to understand that "buying local" and "eating local" is important to the well-being and health of our communities. The Maine Garden Journal believes that "learning local" is equally valuable when it comes to gardening in cold-climate, short-season areas. From one gardener to another, this book represents social networking at its best!

Wednesday Wonders-April is Poetry Month

On April 25 at12:30 local author and poet, Sandra L Hutchison, will perform a poetry reading and share her experiences as a poet. Sandra is the author of a book of poetry, The Art of Nesting, and a memoir about living in China during the Tiananmen Uprising, Chinese Brushstrokes. Her poetry, stories, essays and reviews have appeared in a wide variety of publications, including the Oxford anthology of stories about China, Chinese Ink, Western Pen.

March 24- Get "Uke Inspired"

This one-day workshop from 10 am to 1:30 p.m. in the Orono Public Library Community Room will begin with a showing of the documentary "The Mighty Uke" and then will introduce students, both parents and children, to the Ukelele. Free Tax Help on Fridays

Wednesday Wonders: Heart Health

The next Wednesday Wonders will be held at the library on February 29 @ 12:30pm with the topic of Heart Health.

Denise Sullivan is a 2008 WomenHeart Champion and heart disease survivor. She began her “cardiac journey” in 2007 when she had open heart surgery at the age of 47. She will put you through an array of emotion including lots of laughter while she shares her personal story, discusses the risk factors of heart disease, and empowers women, family and friends with “Mainers Make the Call.” Attend this presentation as a gift to yourself or for someone you love.

This program will inlcude a light and healthy lunch and is sponsored by a grant from the Maine Humanities Council. Please call 866-5060 to reserve a space.

Home Energy Efficiency = Lower Bills and Greater Comfort

The Orono Public Library’s will feature a talk by Orono resident Laurie Osher, on Tuesday, Feb 7 from 6-7pm. Laurie, the owner of Osher environmental Services will show pictures and describe the weatherization retrofits that have lowered her client’s heating bills between 35% and 50% per year. She will identify the most cost-effective home improvements for any Orono home owner and provide information about Efficiency Maine’s PACE (Property Assessment Clean Energy) financing program. There will be time for a Q & A session, so bring your weatherization questions.

Author, Mark Kelley wil speak about his current tielt: Rain of Ruin on Wednesday, January 25 at 12:30pm. This event will take place in the library Community Room. There will be light refreshments and copies of the book available for purchase. There are also copies at the library available for check out.

Rain of Ruin is a fictionalized account of an 18 year old country girl who moves to Washington DC to work as a clerk with the top secret Manhattan Project. She finds romance in the city but has a growing sense of terror when she learns that project scientists think setting off the atom bomb might destroy the earth.
